Nuggets Star Derrick White Struggles to Get a Table at Casa Bonita
Homecoming Hero Finds Fame Makes Getting a Table Tough
Not even the most successful Coloradan in the NBA today can get a table at Denver’s most famous restaurant. Celtics point guard Derrick White tried to visit Casa Bonita this summer but was unsuccessful. “I want to go to Casa Bonita. I’m a Casa Bonita fan,” White said. He may have to wait until the offseason or perhaps even later in the spring if the highly anticipated Celtics-Nuggets Finals matchup comes true.
Denver Homecoming Meets Championship Buzz
White’s visits to Denver are always special. He sees family and friends, but this year is different – Denver is the defending NBA champion. “Definitely a lot more Nuggets fans than when I was in high school,” White said. “So it’s exciting for the city.”
From Breakout Star to Key Celtics Player
Since his buzzer-beater in the Eastern Conference Finals, White’s role with the Celtics has grown significantly. He’s become a key two-way player, boasting the league’s best net rating when he’s on the court. “He’s playing so much more confidently,” said Nuggets coach Michael Malone.
Loyalty to Boston, But Denver Roots Remain
While Denver holds a special place in White’s heart, his loyalty lies with the Celtics. He admitted to rooting against the Nuggets in their 2023 championship run.
New Look Celtics Fuels White’s Success
Boston’s offseason acquisitions, particularly Jrue Holiday, have provided White with a strong defensive partner and helped unlock his offensive potential. This season marks career highs in scoring, shooting, and distributing for the 7th-year guard.
CU Buff K.J. Simpson Catches White’s Eye
Meanwhile, back in Boulder, CU continues its tradition of developing elite guards. Current junior K.J. Simpson, a Wooden Award contender, has caught White’s attention. “He’s been incredible,” White said of Simpson.
